The thought of the hunt begins and strengthens at different times throughout the year. This year proves to be no different. I drive along the Northern Front Range to and from work each day. My commute takes me from Loveland to Boulder in the morning and back home in the afternoon. Sometimes as I am driving the back roads home I take notice of the great Rocky mountains to the west and wonder what enchantment lies ahead as the hunting season for mule deer and elk is fast approaching.

This particular day I gaze in awe as the rays of the sun poke holes in the overcast sky and shine on the foothills four miles to the west. I begin to dream of the perfect shot. You know the one that I’m talking about.
